Expanded clay pebbles are a terrarium essential, perfect for creating a reliable drainage layer in terrariums, mossariums, and potted plants. They help excess water sit away from roots, keeping things fresher, healthier, and less soggy.
You can also use them as a lightweight growing medium instead of soil, or mix them in to improve airflow and drainage.
Other ways to use clay balls:
- Mix into potting soil to increase porosity and prevent compacted, heavy soil.
- Use in a tray or saucer with water to gently raise humidity around plants that hate dry air (just keep the pot sitting above the waterline).

As plants need water and light to thrive they'll need to be looked after. Once you receive your parcel, simply place the plants in indirect light and water them when the soil becomes dry. The plants can be wrapped before being gifted. As long as the plants are properly cared for, the terrarium can be made at any convenient time.
