Our story

Small living worlds, made by hand in London

Tropical Glass began as a curiosity about tiny self-sustaining ecosystems and grew into a London studio dedicated to terrariums, creative workshops and bringing a little more nature indoors.

How it began

Tropical Glass began long before it had a name

It started at home, as one of those hobbies that slowly takes over your shelves, your weekends and, eventually, your life in the best possible way.

We are Katie and Lucas, and we became fascinated by terrariums: tiny living worlds inside glass that can quietly sustain themselves when everything inside is in balance.

After reading about sealed terrariums that had survived for decades, we decided to make our own. We experimented with different glass vessels, plants, mosses and soil layers. Some worked beautifully, while others taught us what these small ecosystems truly need to thrive.

During the Covid years, the hobby we kept returning to gradually became something bigger. Tropical Glass began to feel less like an idea and more like our next chapter.

Made by hand

From our London studio to your home

Today, Tropical Glass is our London terrarium studio, led by us and supported by a small team.

We design and make ready-made terrariums, prepare DIY terrarium kits and host creative workshops. Everything is put together by hand among shelves of plants, glass vessels, moss, tools and the everyday creative mess that comes with making things properly.

We carefully consider the plants and materials used in our terrariums and kits, and we are always happy to offer practical advice after an order arrives.

What we love most is how terrariums make people pause.

Studio supervisor

And, of course, Bernie

Bernie joined our little family during the early days of Tropical Glass and is rarely too far from the action. He may not help with the planting or packing, but he takes his role as studio supervisor very seriously.
